Foghorn

from Foghorn by Billy Qvarnström

lyrics

For 30 days and 30 nights
Amongst wicked, salty seas
We man the light

We both guided many ships
Tens come and gone
Until the morn, that fateful day
When one fell ill

Estranged at heavy sea, many long weeks
He suffered day and night, we could but pray
Never any aid in sight, our hopes grew slim
And as if free at last, he drew his final breath

Are you still here?
Why must you haunt me? I never wanted this
Your pleas from somewhere far away, the other side

Why must you torment me? It wasn't me

You're not my friend, but it's cold outside
Why don't you come in?
You weren't my friend, but the wind is hard
Why won't you come in?

For 120 days, and many endless nights
Amongst wicked, salty seas
I manned the light

I no longer know who I am
Or where you went
I dream of land once more
And mayhap I'll leave one day this rock
